Sam Tofanelli (she/her/hers)
Graduate Clinical Intern
My background:
I am particularly interested in trauma, body grief, and women’s health. I hope to assist clients in rediscovering their inner strength, improving their relationship with their bodies, and processing trauma and change. I believe that a person’s path to healing is found in the link between their physical and emotional self, and I am committed to co-creating a safe, supportive, and compassionate space where clients feel empowered to explore and process their experiences. I've worked with the Agave Center for Justice in Mental Health to provide pro bono psychotherapy services as well as case management to underserved populations. I've also worked at a hospital on their inpatient behavioral health unit, working with individuals with acute trauma and distress.
Why I'm a Therapist:
I've spent the past decade working in hospitality, and one thing is very clear to me--I love working with people. After ten years in restaurants, I've decided I want to enjoy restaurants in my personal time, and use my professional career to work in mental health. Barriers to care exist everywhere we look. If we're looking for a reason to NOT go to therapy, it's incredibly easy to find one! I, however, would be honored to play a small part in making it easier for you to take care of yourself. Because that's what this is all about - you taking care of yourself. That's what I'd like to help you do.
Education, Training, and Specialization:
I'm currently a graduate student at the University of Chicago studying Social Work & Social Policy. I graduate in Spring of 2027.
