Jessica Schuhlen (she/her/hers)
Graduate Clinical Intern
My Background:
I am a Graduate Clinical Intern currently completing my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northwestern University. I also hold a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia in Media Studies and own a small fitness studio, believing deeply in the connection between physical health and mental health.
Why I’m a therapist:
I entered the Counseling profession due to its emphasis on client empowerment and the goal to promote individual growth. I hope to advocate for my clients and become a strong support system for their own self-discoveries. I understand first-hand the power that having an empathetic and considerate presence during a time of intense pain can provide. I feel passionate about women’s health and believe deeply in the power of community during times of complex transition, especially during parenthood, fertility, and pregnancy. I like to tailor my work to each individual client’s needs and truly meet my clients where they are currently at to be able to realize where they want to go.
My education/training:
My clinical experience includes an internship at the Bette D. Harris clinic, supporting clients experiencing mental health challenges at no-cost. My work included creating appropriate diagnosis, assessments, and integrating evidence-based interventions to foster client empowerment and promote individual growth. Through my graduate education and training, I have developed a strong interest in humanistic work, grounded in an existential and person-centered lens.
Areas of specialization:
I am passionate about collaborating with individuals and couples through the following areas: women’s and perinatal mental health, grief and loss, fertility journeys, parenthood, and relationship issues.
