(she/her/ella)
Hello, I’m Carina!
My Background
My professional career has focused on supporting young children and their families through my work with Head Start and Early Head Start programs. This has included classroom support, developmental assessments, coaching, home visiting, early intervention, and child welfare consultation. I have gained a deep understanding of the complex developmental and social-emotional needs of young children, as well as the challenges faced by parents, and I work to connect families with the appropriate resources to help them thrive. I completed my training for my Master’s Degree in Social Work at Flourish and am excited to be a staff psychotherapist, specializing in the perinatal population.
Why I’m a Therapist
After my own perinatal experiences with my own two children, I felt frustrated with the lack of local providers focused on perinatal work and was determined to become a part of the solution. As a relationally focused, bilingual ( English/Spanish) psychotherapist at Flourish Counseling & Wellness, I first want to ensure that clients feel affirmed and supported in their experiences and work together through their histories, traumas and goals. Together, we will utilize a multitude of therapeutic modalities that best suit the needs of the client.
Education & Training
I have Masters Degrees in Social Work and Early Childhood Education from Erikson Institute. I completed my undergraduate degree in Human Development & Family Studies at the University of Missouri Columbia. I completed an internship at Shands Jacksonville Hospital with rotations in the pediatric intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care unit, worked with pediatric emergency room patients and became a Certified Child Life Specialist. I also hold the following post graduate certificates: Infant Specialist & Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health. I have also completed further training and certification on Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADS) through Post Partum Support International ( PSI). My professional career has focused on working with young children and their families working in support of Headstart and Early Headstart programs through classroom work, assessment, coaching, home visiting, early intervention and child welfare understanding the complex needs of young children, their development & social-emotional needs across various systems and the needs of parents and connecting them to the appropriate supports to thrive.
