My Background:
I am currently completing my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at DePaul University. For the past 5 years I have worked as a student services advisor in the College of Science and Health at DePaul. While I have worked in, or closely with helping professions for almost ten years, it was referring my students to mental health resources that ultimately sparked my desire to pursue Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Prior to starting at DePaul, I was in the home health space where I assisted patients and their families in the transition from healthcare facilities to their home. In my work I have seen positive the impact that counseling can have on client’s relationships and well-being, especially during periods of major life transitions and crisis. I am attracted to the perinatal mental health space because fertility journeys are a transition period for families that can go largely unspoken about. For my clients I want seeking counseling to be an empowering choice. I believe in a strength based and collaborative approach to counseling. As a client you have everything within yourself to achieve growth, a counselor is a tool to assist you in uncovering and encouraging your own strengths. I seek to empower my clients by utilizing evidence-based practices such as DBT, CBT, and ACT to assist my clients in connecting with their values and moving their lives in meaningful directions. As a therapist at Flourish Counseling I will lead with authenticity humor and warmth to create a comfortable and respectful space for clients to explore and process their emotions.
